Choosing a Colorado Rafting Trip

Choosing the right Colorado rafting trip for your group can seem overwhelming, so let us help!

It’s that time of year again…the heavy snowpack from the peaks of the Rocky Mountains is beginning to melt into the corridors of the Arkansas River!

With the large amount of snowfall Colorado has seen this winter, we’re looking forward to an exciting rafting season with high water levels that will allow us to offer trips well into August. This year, we’re offering trips on four different sections of the Arkansas River: Browns Canyon, the Narrows, the Numbers, and the Royal Gorge. Each of these trips has their own unique feel – whether you’re looking for a fun family adventure down the scenic banks of Browns Canyon or a more challenging and wild ride down the Royal Gorge – we’ve got it all!

Here are just a few of our rafting adventures to get your summer trip planning started:

Browns Canyon Half Day

Browns Canyon is the most popular whitewater section in the country! With steep granite cliffs jutting out of the river and snow-capped peaks up above, it’s no surprise that Browns Canyon was named a National Monument in 2015. The thrilling Class III-III+* rapids challenge the more experienced rafters, yet are forgiving enough for first-timers, which makes this stretch of the river great for the whole family. Minimum age: 6*

The Narrows Overnight Trip

Get the full Colorado experience on this 29-mile long stretch of river! This trip combines both the Narrows and Browns Canyon into an overnight camping trip through Colorado’s Sawatch Range where the high concentration of 14,000-foot peaks makes for a breathtaking backdrop. After a full day of paddling through Class III-IV* rapids, you’ll sleep under a canopy of stars on the banks of the Arkansas River and wake up to the morning glow of the sun casting shadows onto the canyon walls.
Minimum age: 14*

The Royal Gorge Full Day

The Gorge offers some of the most sought-after rafting in Colorado with its thrilling Class IV-IV+* rapids that cut through the 1,100-foot granite cliffs towering over the river. Famous for its spectacular scenery and huge waves, the Royal Gorge is one of our more challenging whitewater adventures for those looking for a wild ride and a BIG adventure.
Minimum age: 16*

The Numbers Full Day

Looking for a real adrenaline-pumping adventure? Look no further! The Numbers section is the most continuous section of whitewater on the Arkansas River. With relentless Class IV-IV+* rapids, the Numbers is the most intense and action-packed trip that we offer! Endurance and stamina are necessary prerequisites for this all-day adventure.
Minimum age: 18*

We hope you’re as excited as we are for the rafting season ahead! These are just a few examples of the many trips we offer at Noah’s Ark. If whitewater rafting isn’t your thing, check out one of our guided rock climbing, canoeing, or backpacking trips! We even have an adventure park that’s suitable for all ages and ability levels.
